A ripping little all rounder for small to medium sized waves, the Haydenshapes Hypto Krypto surfboard is a modernised performance fish on steroids.
Pluses
+ Extra fast small to medium size wave all rounder
+ Will take a steep drop even with the wide, fishy nose and the low rails plus round tail combo will hold tight in steeper, hollower waves
+ Lots of volume hidden well through the foil makes the Hypto Krypto and excellent paddler that generates speed easily
Minuses
– Hayden’s ‘Futureflex’ EPS technology has the closest ‘feel’ I’ve observed in the water to a traditional PU based board but hardcore PU loyalists will need to adjust to the differing buoyancy of EPS. Plus, the lightness of the EPS construction makes the board more difficult to manage in strong winds and on bumpy wave faces – I struggled with the outline in solid overhead surf but I know others who have ridden the Hypto in places like Indonesia with great success
Benny Rides

Hello, this is Ben and welcome to Benny’s Boardroom! Today, we are going talk about the Hypto Krypto by Haydenshapes, based in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. This thing is so popular right now.
Every time I go out in the surf, it seems I see a few of these boards in the water and, where I live, the waves are usually a little bit flatter faced, a little bit smaller and a little bit weaker. I think that is part of the reason why people like surfing the Hypto Krypto so much is because it excels in those kinds of conditions.
On Haydenshapes website, Hayden talks about this surfboard as being the most versatile model in his range and that it can be surfed well overhead. You also may have seen the video of Craig Anderson surfing his Hypto Krypto at Greenbush in the wave blessed Mentawais, Indonesia at double overhead. I personally wouldn’t take this board to Indonesia and I definitely wouldn’t take it into a wave like Greenbush!
To me this board is best in shoulder high to overhead waves that are less hollow and less critical. In those types of waves it is fantastic, fun and really fast. So fast, in fact, that the first couple of times I took off on a wave with the Hypto the board actually bolted off without me and I got to watch the wave and the board go off into the distance, as I fell backwards. Once I got the hang of the slightly more buoyant E.P.S. construction, however, I really enjoy surfing this board.
The Hypto Krypto has quite a cool outline. It’s got this big, wide, almost fishy nose up front, wide point forward – so, carrying a lot of foam underneath the chest, which helps you to paddle into smaller, weaker waves – but then it has this awesome, pulled in pin tail at the back. So, a really different design; there are not many boards that I’ve seen that are shaped like this, where you’ve got a fishy nose pulling right in to a steep pin at the back.
There is a lot of foam throughout the board but the E.P.S. technology keeps the board a little bit lighter so you don’t sacrifice much weight by having so much foam. The rails are really fantastic and low so, again, more manoeuvrable than a traditional fish style surfboard. You can turn this thing really hard but it’s also a great board for flying down the line and doing big, arching turns.
If you’ve had a go on the Hypto Krypto, please let us know what you think of it and thank you very much for watching.

Fun board in tiny waves but no paddle power and terrible in hold past 3 foot. Won’t go when it has any wind at all.
Had to be perfect
To many flat spots
If the wind was up the board was down
Fun forgiving Surfboard in most conditions. I would say it works best for me from chest high to overhead but with one condition - and that is that it needs to be clean with not too much wind. I find the board kinda of disappears when the wind picks up.
Mine is the 5'4 with the PE/PU (all white no carbon rails)construction

Really fun design. Fun in steep surf, but conditions have to be right. Doesn't handle wind at all. Big nose and light weight makes it a kite. The reason for the low grade is that it is the most delicate board I've ever owned. I ignored many of the post stating this. First time out I hand handprints up all the rails from duck diving. Any bump will result in a pretty severe ding ding. After 2 months its pretty much ruined. I've owned any many boards, and this is by far the most wimpy board I've ever ridden. So unless you're sponsored or have an endless budget, be aware of the warnings.
Been surfing the hypto for 5 months now, love it. The way it paddles, the way it handles and the speed. However i am disapointed with the durablitly of the of the materials, it seems like this board will ding or crack with very little effort. It seems to me to be a little disappointing given the hefty price tag. All in all though i definetly dont regret the purchase just wanted to give some info for those thinking of buying, as i know i appreciate all info i can get before i buy.. cheers
I'm 185 lbs, Good but not great physical form 5,11". I spend 2 months every year surfing in
Indo, Costa, Nicaragua, Panama. I consider myself an intermediate surfer.
5.10 Webster step up model is what I've been surfing but lacks in volume.
Torn on making the wrong choice on ordering a Hypto Krypto. Can anyone shed some light on what size I should order? Fire wire says I should be ridding a 38L board
While other sites say 27 L .
Ridden the 5'10 twice now in 3-4ft hollow beach breaks. I had no trouble going from a 6'1 JS Revo to this. I rode it as a thruster and found that it was faster and very manouvreable. The pulled in pin tail allows for sharp turns and the extra volume under the chest allows for plenty of paddle power. Love it! Get it!
I have and i had many boards in the last 23 years of surf, i have a nice quiver and i decided to buy the mythical Hypo Krypto... and what can i say... is awesome!
I never felt before what i feel when i surf with hypo, looks like is an extension of me in the wave! In bigger waves is very good and stable, the drive is perfect, and is easy to make great manoeuvres! In small waves is fun and as well easy to surf! Great board for every conditions! Thanks Hayden 🙂 I love my board
Just bought the board two weeks ago had 3 session so far can't explain to you how awesome this board is. I'm 6' 190 lbs and I bought a 6'4" I was worried when I got the board that it would be to small, I was wrong thankfully this thing floats unbelievable and catches waves with ease. The fact that I'm most impressed by is late takeoff in critical situations it holds the line perfect. Overall a great performer! I'm very happy and I will be putting to the test in Nicaragua in a month.
