“Hi Benny, First I have to say that I love your reviews, very informative. I particularly liked your reviews of the Stacey Surfboards The Roach and Neptune’s Ride. My question is if you were to pick between these two boards which one would you go with?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hey, this is Ben and this is Benny’s Boardroom. I buy, ride, and review surfboards. At CompareSurfboards.com, we get a lot of questions, really good questions, from surfers asking us to compare different models. So, I thought that I would start doing a weekly digest where I pick some of what I consider to be the better questions that come through on our Board Question Forum – which you can see on the menu bar – and also, the comments I see on the various posts at CompareSurfboards.com and share them with you so that you can benefit from the good questions that the subscribers and users of CompareSurfboards.com are asking.
This week, I got a good question from a gentleman named Scott. Scott was comparing the Roach by Stacey Surfboards, and the Neptunes Ride by Stacey’s Surfboards. The question is, if I were to compare those two boards, choosing between them, which one would I choose?
It’s a really, really difficult question. I really like Stacey’s boards in general. I’ve reviewed several of them and I’ve had even more of them and I love these boards. I think he’s great at figuring out what is right for the majority of surfers. Not for really high-performance surfers, although I’m sure he does that really well — but I’m not one of those, so I can’t speak as one — but, for average surfers surfing average conditions. I think his boards are fantastic for the everyday person.
The Stacey Roach is one of my favorite boards by Stacey. I just felt so connected to that board, it just gave me such a fantastic ride. I would say the difference between that and the Neptunes Ride if I were to compare the two, the Roach, I think was a little bit more precise. It’s something I would take out in bigger, better, more technical waves. [00:02:00] I know people who surf it when it’s smaller but I prefer it when it is bigger and better.
The Neptunes Ride I like when it is a touch more on the small range. I could surf that board in smaller conditions successfully than I could with the Roach and to me the ride was a little bit more cruisy and a little bit more flowy. It’s kind of got almost an eggy outline, and it works, to me, in small to medium wave conditions. The feel of it is less precise and more flowy. It depends on the ride that you’re looking for.
Scott, if you’re out there, that is my answer to your question. If I was to choose between the two, it would really depend on the ride that I wanted. If I was going for something that’s more high-performance and more precise, possibly something for bigger, better waves, I would go to Roach. If I was going for more average conditions and something that’s a little bit more flowy and kind of fun and just cruisy, I’d go for the Neptunes Ride. That is the digest that answers the question that came through our forum this week.
Thank you so much for watching the show, hope you’re doing well, hit subscribe, and let me know what you think of this Q&A. All right, talk to you soon, bye.
