Best Wave Type
Waist high to overhead, average to more lined up conditions; the Shovel Head can do hollow but not it’s specialty.
I can’t say this of many surfboards I have owned: I can’t think of a time when I had bad surf on the Shovel Head by Stacey Surfboards.
Admittedly, I have never taken the Shovel Head out in waves that are more than a foot or two overhead – this board is not intended for big waves – but it excels in all types of waves in the waist to head high range.
Surfing in steep, punchy, hollow beach breaks, the Shovel Head will help you into a precise drop, hold into a steep face and drive down the line with fury. It will also effortlessly transition into rolling point waves with the flow of a fish but the performance of a traditional shortboard. The Shovel Head is flat enough to get up and going in smaller, weaker surf but has enough curve in the outline and rocker to allow one to jam it hard into turns.
Overall, the Shovel Head is a great, versatile option for a variety of small to medium size wave types.
