Allan Byrne Surfboards
Renowned for his skillful use of channel bottom surfboard designs, Allan Byrne of Allan Byrne Surfboards and Byrning Spears have been at the forefront of surfboard design. Producing immaculate, hand shaped designs for world class surfing talents Kelly Slater and Darrick Doerner, to name a few.
A master of surfboard design, gifted craftsman Allan Byrne originally hailed from New Zealand. Beginning his illustrious shaping career on Oahu, Hawaii's west side in 1969, AB eventually set up shop permanently on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Tragically, Allan Byrne died after a motorcycle accident in Bali in 2013. He was 64. Yet, his legacy lives on through his brand, Allan Byrne Surfboards and Byrning Spears, and through the inspired lucky few who were able to learn directly from this foam and resin master, including his son, Jamie Byrne, an extremely talented shaper in his own right.
