An embodiment of innovation, follow Carapace Custom Wetsuits step-by-step process and they will provide you with a top quality wetsuit built for your body. Their EXO1 Custom wetsuit is warm, comfortable and is made with premium Yamamoto neoprene. Suit up!
+ Custom-made, specifically built to fit your body type
+ Uses Yamamoto neoprene which is warm and doesn’t absorb water like non-limestone based neoprene. It’s more water repellent, dries easily and is lighter in the water. You’ll notice the difference.
+ Step-by-step measurement process as you order online, margin of error is minimal.
+ Easy to get on and off
+ UPDATE: Another benefit of long-term use I have observed in these suits: because the suit is built for your body, you don’t get accelerated material fatigue in the places that stretch most in other suits. For example, the neoprene around the shoulders always breaks down first for me in Rip Curl and O’Neill wetsuits and this usually drives me to replace a suit while the rest of the suit may be in tact. Because the Carapace fits me all over, the wear and tear from normal use is consistent across the suit
– Fits my body perfectly but feels different than other wetsuits that I’m accustomed to buying that don’t fit my body perfectly. If you prefer wetsuits that are more snug, as you’re going through the measurements, err on the side of caution and order with measurements that feel snug
Hey, this is Ben. Welcome to Benny’s Boardroom! Today we are going to look at a custom wetsuit by Carapace Custom Wetsuits. A couple of gentlemen based out of Southern California have used technology creatively to innovate the way that a wetsuit is created. They’ve designed a process that’s very simple and easy to follow that basically pumps out a perfectly custom wetsuit built for your body exactly in three weeks.
I was very, very interested to try this wetsuit. I’m not a ‘standard’ size, very few people are standard size in fact and when you go and purchase a wetsuit off the shelf from a major manufacturer, you’re getting something that is relatively one size fits all. I know that when I go and buy O’Neill or Rip Curl and I know the size that I wear and I know that it fits me but at the same time, again, that’s made for a generic body types, it’s not made for me.
I was very excited to see how the gentlemen at Carapace used technology to create a process that I think produces a product that is better and is competitively price.
This is my Carapace custom wetsuit. I got the EXO1 version of it. One thing I really like about the EXO1 is that it uses Yamamoto neoprene. There are only a very small handful of manufacturers that use Yamamoto neoprene. I like Yamamoto because it’s still flexible, it’s still warm but it doesn’t absorb water as quickly. It’s more water repellent and therefore, it dries more easily and it’s also lighter in the water. It doesn’t absorb as much water when you’re actually surfing and you do notice the difference. That’s one thing that I really liked about this.
Again, the strongest benefit is, of course, is that this suit was specifically built for me. Now one thing I will say about the customization process, going through and following their process online. Carapace have videos that take you through each step in the measurement process so it’s very hard to make an error. If you should make an error which can happen from time to time, they also have a risk free policy whereby if the suit doesn’t fit you perfectly you can send it back and they’ll replace it.
Their process is very easy to follow. I’m actually going to show you a quick screen grab of the first step in the process just so you can see how it works. Let’s go have a look at that now. You can see that I’ve already gone to www.carapacewetsuits.com. I’ve obviously already ordered a wetsuit from Carapace so I’ve got an account and I’ve got my measurements on site. I’m going to show you very quickly what the process is when you do your measurements.
You have this little introduction, you’ll need a tape measure or ruler or somebody else to help you and something that fits snugly to your body so the measurements are accurate. Enter your height, your weight, your age and then you get started. You can see down at the bottom here, these are all complete for me because I’ve already completed all of the measurements but it goes through step-by-step, the neck and chest and the bicep. Basically goes through step-by-step throughout your whole body. They have these helpful little videos on each of the measurements so that you see exactly what to do.
Again, margin of error is pretty minimal, you should be able to go through and follow their process really easily and again, come out the other side with a suit that fits your body perfectly. You get that little measurement, you record it in here and then you hit next and you go into the next measurement. That’s it. Let’s go back to the review.
Anyways, so you go through that step-by-step process and you click order and your wetsuit arrives in, I think, three weeks is their SLA (service level agreement). Again, comparing this to other suits on the market, I’ve used just about every high-end wetsuit that there is and this is just as warm, it’s just as comfortable, just as flexible but again it fits my body better.
Now I will say this. If I were to order another Carapace Custom Wetsuit, the measurements that you take are going to fit your body exactly. When my wife helped me to do the measurements, she measured my neck precisely, my wrists precisely, my biceps precisely. When I received the suit, it actually felt a little bit less snug than those off the shelf suits because again, it was built to fit my body perfectly. It did fit my body perfectly but it felt different than those other wetsuits that I’ve had in the past because they don’t fit your body perfectly.
If you like that feeling of having wetsuits that are a little bit more snug, as you’re going through the measurements error on the side of caution, if you’re going to look at a measurement and you’re wondering if it needs to a half an inch tighter or a half an inch looser, make it a half an inch tighter – that’s all I would say. That’s the only part of the process that I think I would improve upon if I were to order another one.
The customer service if you do have a problem is great. It’s a risk free purchase and it’s a really comfortable, good quality wetsuit made with quality materials. I’ve been surfing in mine day in and day out for about six weeks, it hasn’t degraded in any way. It has loosened up a little bit as every wetsuit does but it’s warm, it’s comfortable, dries really quickly and I’ve really enjoyed using it.
Thank you to the gentleman at Carapace for this EXO1 custom wetsuit and I think it’s great what you’re doing. I think it’s awesome to see people leveraging technology to innovate a product and this is a great example of that.
That is my take on the Carapace EXO1 Custom Wetsuit. If you’ve had a try of Carapace Custom Wetsuit, please let me know what you think and thank you so much for watching the show.
