It was big. It was fast. It was hollow. It was time to pull out a surfboard for serious, perfect waves. This is wave footage & images post an epic SESSION riding my beautiful Allan Byrne channel bottom gun surfboard.
This board feels so solid in bigger surf. There were late drops a plenty but this channel bottom gun by Allan Byrne Surfboards rose to the challenge and I had some great waves – even a cheeky barrel or two. And, to my pleasant surprise, the channel bottom didn’t disagree with the chop in the wave faces generated from all of that wind. [See the full Allan Byrne channel bottom gun review…]
I wanted to film the gentlemen that I left in the line-up. A lovely, friendly crew enjoying the fruits of a groundswell generated off of the Northwest coast of New Zealand. They were tearing it up, bagging barrel after barrel and having a ball. The waves already made this day special but the positive crew took it to the next level…everyone was taking turns, hooting each other into waves and howling like crazy little banshees.
The light on this day was amazing, too. The shadow of the headland contrasted the sun hitting the big, wind blown peaks to create a special effect I’ve seldom seen.
This day is burned in my mind as one of the greats.
Hope you enjoy the footage and images!
