Hey Guys, I grew up in HB surfing. At about 20 yrs old I started long boarding and soon after moved out of CA and now only long board a few times a year.
Fortunately I’m now traveling to SoCal for work a few days a month and will finally be able to start surfing more regularly again. I would like to transition back to a short board moving forward. I’m going to Nicaragua for a week of surfing next week and need to pick up a short board this weekend.
Since I’ve been on a 9’0 LB so long, close to 20 yrs, I have no idea how the transition back to a short will go and am hoping for advice on board selection.
The last time I bought a board I hadn’t even heard of volume, alternate fin configurations, etc.
Anyway, I’ve been looking and am kinda focusing on Channel Islands, Lost, and I like Ed Sakal’s (long-time HB shaper) Chamelian.
90% of the time I’m surfing in HB but I I plan on taking at least one week a year to explore places like Nica.
If anybody has any advice please help me out. Not in the best surf shape currently and had a bad pelvis fracture/surgery a few years back, I feel old. I’m ~5’8″ 165-170 lbs. and would probably rate my current skill level as intermediate.
Any quick advice is much appreciated. Thanks
