InactiveHey Benny,
Loving your reviews and always look forward to the next video. Thanks for creating such and amazing resource for surfers.
I’m planning a Indo trip in April 2016 and want to make sure I’m bringing the right quiver with me. If I need to buy a new board for the trip I want time to get it sorted. I’m 39, 6ft – 185lbs, very paddle fit and a solid intermediate plus surfer that surfs 4 days a week.
My current quiver consists of:
5”6” Firewire Tomo EVO – 32.3L
5’10” Hypto Krypto – 33.79L
5’10” Firewire Potatonator – 36.8L
6’2” Firewire Unibrow – 35.8L
6’2” Firewire Tomo V4 – 34.9LI surf Huntington Beach most of the time and normally ride the Hypto. I just picked up the EVO 2 weeks ago and have been spending more time on that lately.
I has thinking about taking the 5’6″ EVO, 5’10” HK and 6’2″ V4. I want to make sure the boards I’m bring are good in the barrel and with living in HB there is not much opportunity to get many barrels, except for Sunday and yesterday 🙂
I also have a Nicaragua trip in October and a Maui trip in November planned. Would love to lock down my travel quiver!
Also we are trying to decide between Kandui and Macaronis resorts. I know you go to Indo a ton. Have you been to either resort? Any feedback? I’m a goofy by the way so Macas is sounds pretty sick! That said I want the best opportunity for good (uncrowded) waves.
Thanks Tommy

InactiveHi Tommy. Sorry mate don’t know about the Indo trip but keen on finding out if the Evo is the right size. I am about the same size but a bit older. Still surf about 4 times a week and go ok. Would you recommend the she size for east coast of Aus or go the 5’7″

InactiveHi TeeJay,
The Evo is a truly special board with a unique floating ride. I’m loving mine. I wouldn’t go any bigger than 5’6″ if you are the same size as me. I think you really need to look at these boards with an imaginary front “traditional shortboard” nose on them. That would make the 5’6″ more like a 6’0ish board. It feels short but rides long. The board is amazing in waist to head high waves. Lighting fast and pivots on a dime. I had some chatter in OH waves but it could be the fins. I think i need to go up a bit in size. In the same line of “imaginary front” thought, I rode my buddies 5’10 Vanguard the other day and it felt like a 6’8! way way too big for me.
I go by the Firewire Volume Calculator and it always gets me on the right size.

This puts me in the 33L range on average and all of my recent board selections have been spot on.
