GuestHi Benny
Great website and reviews.
I’m interested in a basement level groveler and have been following your reviews closely. I have the X2 version of the 7S Superfish at 6’3″ – this is my all-rounder. I’m 56 years old, 75 kilos with my winter wetsuit on (yep, even in Summer for me in Tassie) and pretty ordinary in skill terms – slow to get to my feet but have great fun when I get there. Tend to avoid the hollow waves due to my lack of pop-up speed – though sometimes I fluke it. I’m looking for a board for the really small stuff and don’t want to go back to the longboard. I’ve been looking at Couch Potato reviews and it sounds like it would fill the gap. What are your thoughts on this board and would you suggest an alternative?
Cheers

InactiveHi Stepladder, I haven’t ridden the Lost Couch Potato…
If you’ve ridden the Couch Potato, let Stepladder know what you think!
In the interim, check out this post: ‘Six Popular Grovelers Compared. I Like Them All, Especially #6‘ and also the Lost R.V. review! I think the RV is good choice to meet your needs.
Cheers,

GuestThanks for your reply Benny.
I have been following the RV too and it sounds a great board, but I think it overlaps too much with my main board. I’m really looking to cover the lowest of the low that are still surfable on a short board rather than a longboard, so I had leaned toward the Couch Potato.

GuestHi Stepladder, the Lost Couch Potato is an awesome little groveler. I have a 5’7 stock dims but had it made in EPS/epoxy. It goes great in anything from shin to stomach high. What I really like over other grovelers is for the volume they’re relatively thin, mine being 35+L but only 2.44 (2 7/16) thick. I like this because it doesn’t give it that bloated corky feeling some other grovelers have. It’s super fun and fast in the small stuff but also easy to turn and throw around.
Side Note: A lot of people suggest Future Controller fins but they felt too tracky for my liking. Switched the fronts for Future AMT Robber fins and left the rear controllers and I won’t be changing this set up, more drive and turn way tighter.-

Can I ask how tall you are and your weight – just to see how your 5’7″ might suit me. I like the EPS too – my fish is the same and it gives a bit extra float for the same PU volume. Not sure if we can get the EPS version in Oz though.

InactiveGreat advice on the Lost Couch Potato, thanks Toobz!
I like your comment out the Futures Controller fins, too. There is a post about groveler fin setups here you might find interesting. Would be great of you to add your two cents on your experience.
All the best,
Benny

GuestHi Stepladder,
I’m 6’1 and hover between 85-90kg depending on training. I sized mine for grovel/performance and would probably go up a size or two if I was novice or wanted ultimate grovel.
I’m in Oz too (SA) and had mine made through Chilli Surfboards. I ordered mine through a shop but it does give you the EPS option on their site.
If you have any other questions, fire away.Cheers,
Toobz.

GuestThanks for your help Toobz. Checked out the Chilli website too – all very straight forward. I’m probably more in the novice/ultimate groveller category so would opt for the bigger size.

GuestJust a heads up, I checked the Chilli site and it only gave the Future Flex option for EPS. Mine is a stringered EPS blank with out the carbon rails (not that I don’t like FF, I have a Hypto Krypto in FF) and it was $110 extra over the standard PU. I also opted for 6+4oz for added strength on the deck. I’d suggest doing the order over the phone like we did, that way you’ll get exactly what you want.
Cheers.
