Hey guys,
My names Phil. I’m 37 years old and live and surf the beach breaks in and around Newcastle NSW.
It’s been about 6 years since I’ve been in the market for a new board and I was astounded at the amount of choice and technological advances (not to mention cost) when I went into the local surf shops to check out a few boards.
My main go to board is a 6’0 epoxy Surftech tufflite semi fish which I bought on the South Coast NSW about 10 years ago. Thing is tuff as nails and still goes really well. Because I mainly only surf weekends now I cant be as picky with conditions so I usually end up grabbing the fish when the waves are small or gutless i.e. most of the time.
I bought a JS CV8 about 6 years ago as my step up board but rarely surf it. Don’t know whether its through laziness or that I just want to get the most out of each surf but I’ve become super reliant on riding the fish 90% of the time.
Anyway I in the market to find a board to complement my fish, so I guess a bit of a step up. I’ve seen a 5’8 Firewire Spitfire in one of the shops for a really good price and I actually had a chance to demo it in some good size surf this morning, which it seemed to go ok.
I’m wondering whether anyone has this board and whether they could advise if it goes well also in smaller, fuller waves where you need to generate speed quickly off the takeoff?
Any information or pointing towards previous posts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
