Average intermediate surfer looking (75kg) for a good 30-35 litre board for Newcastle beach breaks. Leaning towards a 6ft board (or thereabouts). Which do you recommend between the Rare Bird, Roach and Neptunes Ride?

Apologies for the very belated response!
This is a very difficult question with three great options. I have really been enjoying the Rare Bird in beach breaks lately so that is my pick.
Does anyone else have an opinion on these boards? Share your thoughts with Dessa!

Best site, love the reviews. You write and surf well!
I’m looking to step down from midlength boards (around 6″10/7″) after progressing really steadily.
I love the look and feel of Stacey’s Neptune 6″4 the weight, volume, length just feels right. But I keep thinking I should be aiming to get a 6″2 as I’m only slight – 172cm and about 70kg.
Is it OK to go by instinct when choosing length and volume or will I end up sacrificing too much as I get better? Tough decision.
Thanks so much for your reviews, love the passion that goes into them and you have really consolidated my growing obssession with surfing. Best regards,

Thank you very much for your kind feedback James, much appreciated!
It is a tough decision but I don’t think you are going too long with the 6’4 Neptune. It will be an adjustment to move down 6-8 inches and, while you will probably continue to move down in size over time, I don’t think the Neptunes Ride at 6’4 is not going to hold you back any time soon!

Thanks very much for your excellent advice Benny. It squares with that of my local surf shop guys as well. Just one last q if you don’t mind. I was thinking of looking at a second short board to complement the Neptunes Ride next year, one that my daughter can also step up to as she improves and am flipping between the Channel Islands #4, Snake Eyes and the V3 Rocket. I love the look and sound of the new rocket. I love the rare bird as well and it feels like a dream when you pick one up in the store but the bird seems a little bit too similar to the Neptunes. Would you go the V3 to give the most points of difference with the Neptunes Ride? It certainly seems to have amazing scope as an all rounder? Thanks again for the outstanding reviews and all the best!
