For an obsessive fin swapper (I am one), there is a lot to be said for the new FCS 2 fins system. No more fin key. No more ratchet. But will this be enough to sell the industry?
I thought someone was taking the pi*s. You want me to get another set of fins?!? Having accrued multiple sets of both FCS & Futures over time, I was not impressed.
However, after using the FCS 2 fins for a couple of months now, I’m into it. I like to switch out my fins quite a bit – thruster to quad, quad back to thruster and board to board.
Getting the ratchet or fin key out is only a small thing but in a busy world and when the surf is pumping, seconds of saved time are valuable. “Another epic set just rolled through! Feck, I have to get out there!”
It’s nice (necessary) that the FCS 2 system is backwards compatible, too, although I haven’t used the weird little adapter tabs yet. Not being able to use the dozens of FCS fins I have accrued over the years would have been reason enough to boycott the new FCS 2 fins.
Have you tried the FCS 2 fins system? What do you think?
